516_hg51w1_pawaupfirst_credit_Le_Pigeon_webSummer vibes are in the air – the snow is gone, the sun is out, birds are chirping and the playoffs have started!

With all this excitement, POP wants Montreal to celebrate and party like a pro, so it’s unveiling a part of its summer programming with the return of long-time favorites: Spring POP, Fringe POP, POP Lafontaine, as well as a special first time participation in the Plateau-Mont-Royal’s Piano des villes, piano des champs activity.

First things first, Spring POP is back this year between May 31st and June 2nd featuring 3 days of Puces POP, 2 days of FREE outdoor musical programming in a new location and 2 days of FREE Kids POP. (See events section for complete programming)

Due to its immense popularity, Puces POP will once again open its doors for 3 days and kick off Spring POP, on May 31st at 6pm with an opening party featuring bands, crafters and cocktails at Église St-Michel (105 St-Viateur West). A list of participating artisans will be announced shortly here. Meanwhile, a few blocks North, POP will take over Place de la gare Jean-Talon (corner of Jean-Talon and Parc) for the first time on June 1st and 2nd and present Kids POP on Saturday, as well as 2 days of sweet summer outdoor programming with artists such as Domlebo (ex- Cowboys Fringants), Ira Lee, Lil Andy, Noni Wo (Pat Jordache, ex-Shapes & Sizes) . The supercharged weekend will wrap up Sunday night at Il Motore to the sounds of some weird rap courtesy of The Uncluded, the new duo comprised of Kimya Dawson (ex-Moldy Peaches) and Aesop Rock.

On a not-so-unrelated note, POP Montreal is thrilled to be collaborating with Le Plateau-Mont-Royal to curate for the first time one of the 4 public pianos of the Piano des villes, piano des champs ongoing summer event. POP Montreal’s piano will be located on the front property of the Mile End library and will come to life at Espace POP (5587 Parc), on Sunday, June 2nd as part of Kids POP. Participants will design and create a “piano monster” in a workshop lead by illustrators James Braithwaite and Tyson Bodnarchuk, monster themed crafts will be available for kids of all ages! Roar! The complete piano summer programming will be announced June 4th.

More FREE events have been programmed for those who love listening to live music under the sun! Fringe POP will return June 22nd and 23rd with Paula (TOPS), Montreal’s supergroup collective The Moment (feat. James Irwin), Maica Mia and much more!

POP Montreal is also very happy to once again be taking over the beautiful Théâtre de Verdure, July 12th and 13th, and present two FREE shows featuring Pawa Up First and Orkestar Kriminal (feat. Giselle Weber). More exciting names for this event will be announced later in the summer.

To finish off with some non-music related news, Puces POP will present on May 15th its twice yearly pop-up shopping event, Vintage POP, featuring a curated collection of vintage clothing and accessories for men and women from Montreal’s best vintage hunters! Just in time to get people outfitted for the warm weather, this year’s Spring/Summer edition of Vintage POP will be hosted at Quartier Mode Boutique, so to effortlessly mix vintage discoveries with new pieces by local Montreal designers—for 5 days only! Shoppers can check out the schedule here.

So that’s SOME of it… Stay tuned for more! It’s gonna be bumpin’
